The General Thimayya National Academy of Adventure (GETHNAA) was established by the Government of Karnataka on 23 Mar 1989 for the promotion of adventure sports in Karnataka. The Academy functions under the Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports, Government of Karnataka. The Academy was raised by Gen PP Kumaramangalam, (Retd) Padma Vibhushan, DSO, MBE, and Lt Gen N S Narahari (Retd), PVSM. Today it is the Premier Institute of the Govt of Karnataka, to provide adventure activities / sports to the youth and prepare them for life’s challenges. Youth trained by us have won a number of medals at the National Level and many are gainfully employed in the various Adventure Tourism centres.

Our Mission & Objectives
The mission of the academy is to foster a deep appreciation for adventure sports in the state of Karnataka, aiming to enhance participation and awareness among the local community. Through a variety of training programs and workshops, the academy seeks to empower individuals with the skills and knowledge necessary to engage safely in adventure activities such as trekking, rock climbing, and water sports. By organizing adventure outings and educational sessions, the academy aspires to cultivate a culture of adventure while promoting teamwork, resilience, and environmental appreciation. Ultimately, the objective is to inspire a new generation of adventure enthusiasts who not only enjoy these thrilling experiences but also contribute to the growth and sustainability of adventure sports in Karnataka.
